I'm no programmer so I'm not sure how the recoil is coming. The animations we have showed do not take into account the recoil as that is added in the engine. From my newbie opinion - the guns feel awesome in game.
Probably the biggest hurdle we're having to overcome now is the remaking of the maps. The UDK, even though it's great, really threw us out of whack. We've had to create so many assets and we're only now getting close to finishing some playable maps. As far as I know, Deadlock is having it's lighting made at the moment. John is also implementing a fully kismeted music system that will be completely non-linear and have some AWESOME features that are above and beyond what most indie games, nay - all games, are currently doing.
I'll ask Proto to swing by and answer what I can't
How's that?
I think this particular post, pleased some people more than this news release. Not because the news release isn't good, but as said before, it doesn't give anymore information about the progress apart from that there are graphical assets which look awesome. These news posts are okay, but main complaint is the lack of the kind of info that you just posted. Updates like this once in a while would be really nice!;)

great work restcrew, really nice to check out what you've been working on.
On a side note, I agree with the majority here... info on what's being done, progress on animations, weapons, movement, recoil, game effects (like grenades, flash bangs etc..) are far more interesting than checking out a picture gallery.
That doesn't mean you need to physically show any evidence, just infomation on how the progress is going, how the systems will work, such as ducking, movement, throwing, shooting, aiming, recoil and gun/weapon effects

i find toc gameplay not so bad (once you know what the limitations are, you can play a bit better)
Tell me in words: WHAT is wrong with the gameplay
loose sentences like "gameplay is bad" are just oneliners with no arguments at al.. (i want to know
)
gameplay was not the cause of the dieing community. the reason why toc failed in there latest patches was the framedrops. after 1.6 it never felt the same again. i went from 120 average to 45fps. with close-combats or in base (with buy-menu) i even got 20 fps. the framedrops started in 1.7 after they removed the cornerbug ... i tried everything to get a stable fps, but its was hopeless. thats why i removed crossfire from my computer.

everybody had different reasons. Cornerbug/FPS problem was a serious reason, and some said the player movement just felt awkward compared to TO. Some were dissappointed by the patches that followed, that didnt change the game much, despite their feedback in the forums. What was left at 1.7 was still a nice game, but a playerbase that wasnt motivating anyone to continue. At some point it became really difficult to find a war, just playing the same guys all the time, or worse, no opponents left. So that was pretty much the end. Pretty unfortunate cuz the basics were there.

bytheway, reminds me...
When the beta will be out... or when you know what the ETA will be. please inform us a while before launch. <-- i need to upgrade some hardware here (gfx/cpu and all watercooled). So if its possible maybe a month or so before release.
My pc can pull it off if im right, but my GF's pc is ... well... TOC is handling nice.. but could use some more power.
Shell have my old setup and ill get something fresher... But im a watercooling guy, so i need some time to prepare
